Just making a few minor changes to your lifestyle will have a big impact on the environment.
- Reduce your waste. Bring your own mug to your favorite coffee place, and your own canvas bag to the grocery store.
- Reuse, and help out your fellow man. Done with that computer? Keep it out of the landfill by donating it. Pick a favorite charity and become a regular contributor.
- What you can't reduce or reuse, recycle! It is estimated that 75% of what we throw away can be recycled. If your neighborhood doesn't have a recycling program, start one. Contact your city dump for more information.
- If you can’t turn off your computer, make sure that you have the power management option turned on to avoid wasted energy.
- Tread lightly in the great outdoors. Use existing trails, don't start new ones. Leave no trace that you were there.
- Use "Energy Star" appliances. They are more energy efficient which will help reduce the amount of greenhouse gases you produce and save you money.
- Make sure your home is properly insulated for maximum energy efficiency.
- Adjust your thermostat 2 degrees up in the summer and down in the winter and dress appropriately.
- When selecting a printer, think inkjet rather than laser. Inkjet printers use 80% less energy than laser printers and the empty cartridges can be refilled and recycled.
- Drive conservatively. Better yet, try walking or biking whenever possible. When its time to buy a new car, consider a hybrid.
- Keep your car maintained. Make sure your tires are properly inflated, keep your gas tank at least half full and change your oil regularly.
